I Swear To Drunk I Am Not God

S4 - EP 7 - JANE "JOLLY JANE" TOPPAN: THE KILLER NURSE

Britt Perkins Season 4 Episode 7

Welcome to Season 4 – Episode 7!

In this episode, we examine the case of Jane Toppan, a woman often reduced to the label of “killer nurse,” but whose crimes reveal something far more disturbing. Toppan didn’t simply murder her patients - she manipulated them.

Charged with twelve murders and confessing to at least thirty-one, she exploited a system that trusted caregivers implicitly and rarely questioned deaths labeled as “natural.” Her case forces an uncomfortable conversation about access, authority, and how easily harm can hide behind a smile and a uniform.

This is a case study in pathology, power, and what happens when caregiving becomes compulsion.

The poison for this episode is the Black Velvet.

If you want to drink with me, you’ll need champagne and Guinness stout.

Black Velvet:

  • ½ champagne
  • ½ Guinness stout

Slowly pour the champagne into a chilled flute, then gently top with Guinness by pouring it over the back of a spoon to create the layered effect. No garnish. Let it sit as it is.

Enjoy!
